The Four Steps to Self-Love

In the last few years, self-love and self-care seem to have become buzz words, with the notion that we all need to take better care of ourselves and love ourselves more. Many people think that self-love and self-care are about doing nice things for themselves, if and when they have time. That it means to schedule some “me time” in order to honor and love themselves. However, true self-love goes much deeper than that.

Self-love means loving your “self”, the wholeness of who you are. It means getting to know yourself with all your strengths and weaknesses and approving completely of each facet of yourself. It means developing the inner knowing that you are worthy of all the good things in life. It means stepping into the greatness of who you are and allowing yourself to be authentically you, unapologetically.

It means saying yes when you mean yes, and saying no when you mean no. It means setting boundaries and realizing that you are the most important person in your life. It means taking responsibility for yourself, your health and well-being, your state of mind, your emotions, your spiritual needs – in short, taking responsibility for every aspect of your life.

Self-love s a process. It’s not something that just clicks. It’s not something you can just do every now and then, when it fits into your schedule, just another item on your “to-do” list. True self-love is a way of life, a lifestyle choice. It means that every day you choose yourself and make decisions for yourself.

We could say that true self-love rests on four pillars, which are self-discovery, self-acceptance, self-worth, and self-care. Or, in other words, your journey to true self-love consists of four steps, and only when you take all four will you reach the state of total self-love.
